Thanks for this question. Yes, that is right, I mentioned all the way back in probably 2018 on one livestream when I was still in America that my ideal philosophy school would not be anything like a modern American university with its outrageously high fees and all the meddling from a bloated and dysfunctional administrative superstructure. Instead, the ideal school would be a group of people who meet by choice once a week or so, discuss a text everyone had agreed to read, and then pass around a hat to collect a few dollars to keep the meeting going for the next week. I compared this to some very small churches I remember seeing back in my youth, such as one Pentecostal Church in my village that was so short on funds that the pastor literally held "church" in a public park in the town and strummed an acoustic guitar and sang with no PA system etc. That guy was of course working a day job as a social worker so he didn't really make his living as a "pastor" but it showed me that you dont' have to be employed as a professional X to still get the chance to do something with it if you're passionate about it. Without any doubt, if I was still in America, I would be working some other job with no relation to philiosophy but I'd still get to "do philosophy" if only on UA-cam because you don't have to ask the big instituutions for permission to do this sort of thing. In fact, going through the academic industry will at this point just defeat the purpose since even the philosphy departments there, it seems that not much philosophy gets done these days.

​@@chadahaagphilosophychannel7329 This reminds me of the factory readers who would read books and newspapers to their coworkers in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The workers would support them as much as they could because obviously the boss isn't going pay them to read books on the clock and generally it worked out, provided there wasn't a lot of loud machinery in the room.

@@chadahaagphilosophychannel7329 I was going to pursue a doctorate in sociology or social theory but my professors told me--with the state of academia and the defunding of the liberal arts in favor of STEM, they cannot recommend it in good faith. They said you're going to be miserable--you're not going to be able to teach theory; you're not going to be able to study theory; you're not going to be able to publish theory; and you're going to be lucky to make $40K-$50k/ a year with a PhD... And that's after being exploited as an adjunct for several years... Giving up that dream after coming to my senses and deciding what to do next was one of the darkest times in my life... So now I'm getting ready for law school..

@@supriseimblack Thanks a lot for this comment. First, I will not necessarily make a recommendation about what to read first. I will say though that I will appreciate any interest you may take in my work and sincerely hope you enjoy your reading experience but then again Nick Land is also well worth looking into, though sometimes quite difficult to understand. That being said, I must admit that I have not in fact read Marcuse before but from what I do know about him, it seems that he places a lot more emphasis on the Freudian idea of desire and repression than Ellul would ever be interested in. Ellul's lack of interest in Psychoanalytic stuff (at least from what I've seen so far) probably stems from his religious background as a Christian and Protestant, in which case ultimate religious ideals especially regarding the dignity of Man which Technique threatens really could have meaning rather than just be surface-level distortions of unspeakable unconscious drives. For that reason, any dialogue between him and the psychoanalytic thinkers is very hard if not impossible to anticipate, in my own opinion

I must admit that I am very fortunate to have it much better with regard to inflation than many in say the USA where the problem is much worse but I've also noticed that the money doesn't go as far as it used to just a few years back and each month it disappears faster than the last despite buying pretty much the same stuff.

Organizing to demand more food and lower prices from Chipotle unfortunately won't do as much as it would have in the past; it's clear that Chipotle wouldn't do this unless they had no other choice. Higher prices and smaller portions are just unclear ways of talking about the inflation which btw is set to get much worse now that Saudi Arabia has officially ended the Petro Dollar which was the main way the US had to print dollars at will without having to deal with inflation by selling those dollars to people who needed to buy oil with them. Thanks for this question. In the vocabulary for lesson 2, the entry for "apo" notes that it means "away from" when followed by a noun in the genitive case. The cases may have meanings after prepositions especially that do not overlap with their usual uses as, for example, indicating possession etc.
